SHAH ALAM, Aug 17 — A total of 400 KDEB Waste Management (KDEBWM) employees in Kajang received their Covid-19 vaccine through the Selangor Vaccination Programme (Selvax) for the community in the Balakong constituency yesterday.

Balakong state assemblyman Wong Siew Ki said even though many of the workers were illiterate and could not even sign their names, they are equally as important as others because the community are dependent on their services.

“I remember the difficulties we faced last month when some of the KDEBWM employees were infected with Covid-19, and their colleagues had to be placed under self-quarantine.

“Garbage collection services were almost interrupted in some areas at that time. Thus basic protection needed to be provided for these (KDEBWM) employees. Hopefully, through this (Selvax) programme, they would be protected and help shield our community (from Covid-19),” she said on Facebook.

The KDEBWM employees were jabbed at the Evo Mall vaccination centre (PPV) in Bangi.

The state government had allocated 500,000 doses of the Covid-19 vaccine through Selvax Community to benefit 250,000 people in the state.

Meanwhile, a total of two million doses of vaccine were given to workers, including foreigners, to control the spread of the pandemic in the workplace through Selvax Industry.

The Federal government recognised the effort involving RM200 million and included it in the National Covid-19 Immunisation Programme (PICK) framework, which targets the low-income group, senior citizens, and industrial workers.
