SHAH ALAM, Aug 16 — The Selangor government has agreed to expand the Selangor Roda Darul Ehsan Initiative (RiDE) to e-hailing riders between the age of 30 to 40 years old.

State executive councillor for youth development Mohd Khairuddin Othman said many food riders in the said age group are among those that had their income affected due to Covid-19.

“When the outbreak hit the country, the youths were not the only group affected with employment and economic issues. There are many individuals above 30 years old who provide delivery services using motorcycles.

“Therefore I have asked Selangor State Sports Council (MSN) executive director, Mohamad Nizam Marjugi to prepare the paperwork and get the approval for those aged between 30 to 40 years old to apply for RiDe this year,” said Mohd Khairuddin when met after handing over a RM500 financial aid to 600 RiDE participants at Dewan MBSA Seri Pagi in Section U19, here yesterday.

The state government had channelled a total of RM343,080 for the said incentive.

Mohd Khairuddin said the RM500 cash assistance is disbursed to the e-hailing riders from Petaling, Kuala Selangor, Hulu Selangor and Sabak Bernam districts in the first phase.

Meanwhile, Mohd Khairuddin also added that RiDE participants who have yet to be vaccinated will also be receiving their Covid-19 shots immediately.

“They will be inoculated under the Selangor Vaccination Programme (Selvax), which is currently ongoing,” he said.

The RiDE application is open from January to December 2021 via https://msnselangor.gov.my website.

Selangor has allocated a total of RM2 million for the programme this year with an estimated 3,000 participants.
