Hijrah Selangor expected to extend loan moratorium for another six weeks

SHAH ALAM, July 24 — The automatic loan repayment moratorium to all borrowers of Yayasan Hijrah Selangor (Hijrah) is expected to be extended for another six weeks.

State executive councillor for entrepreneur development Rodziah Ismail said the initiative should be considered as many borrowers’ income is still affected due to Covid-19.

"The current loan repayment moratorium ends at the end of this month, so we will give a bit of a break and lift it again (the proposed extension) maybe six weeks.

"The Covid-19 infection trend now is more worrying and I am confident that even though traders have been given access to the vaccine, the economy cannot just recover overnight," she said.

She said this during a visit to the Selvax Community programme for Batu Tiga state constituency at the vaccination centre (PPV) in De’ Palma Hotel at Section 19 here yesterday.

Meanwhile, Rodziah said Hijrah has provided funds amounting to more than RM80 million to small traders during the movement control order (MCO) 1.0 to 3.0 despite not being able to collect repayment of loans.

"The state government would like to see them continue to do business, if there is a capital problem, this is an opportunity for them to apply for additional loans," she added.

On June 9, Selangor Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari announced that 40,000 Hijrah entrepreneurs were given a loan repayment moratorium of one and a half months through the Kita Selangor Package 2.0 Package involving a financial impact of RM11.35 million.

He also announced an additional RM80 million allocation to help 8,000 entrepreneurs by providing them with a seed capital (modal awalan) specifically for those who lost their jobs due to the MCO.
