SHAH ALAM, July 5 — The total cost for two doses of vaccine procured under the Selangor Vaccination Programme (Selvax) for workers in Selangor (Selvax Industry) will be fully borne by the employers, says state executive councillor for industry and trade Dato’ Teng Chang Khim.
He said the cost is inclusive of the vaccine and other additional expenses such as rent for halls, logistic costs as well as mobilising healthcare workers.
“The cost of the entire programme — service, system, management and vaccination — will be borne by the company or employer and they cannot impose any fees or charges on their employees.
“This clause has been stated in the agreement and the companies participating in Selvax Industry are not allowed to resell the appointment slots they have acquired to other companies,” he said during a virtual press conference on Selvax Industry today.
Also present was state executive councillor for entrepreneur development Rodziah Ismail.
Meanwhile, Teng said a total of 13,000 employees have been vaccinated since the programme was launched on June 30 and another 50,000 employees from the manufacturing and services sectors have signed up for the initiative.
“We have identified that the manufacturing and services sectors need to be prioritised as they need to get vaccines for their employees as soon as possible. The process to vaccinate those who have registered is still ongoing.
“At this rate, the number of vaccines allocated under Selvax Industry is most likely enough for essential industries only.
“However, if there is an excess of vaccine from the allocation, it will be opened to non-essential industries as well,” he said.
Selvax Industry aims to vaccinate 1,000,000 employees (2,000,000 doses of vaccine) and is open to companies or industries to participate voluntarily.
The state government had launched Selvax where a total of 2.5 million doses of vaccine are allocated for 1.25 million individuals in the state.
The two-prong programme includes the Selvax Community initiative, which aims to inoculate 250,000 individuals from the elderly and B49 groups, and Selvax Industry for workers from essential sectors in the state.
