SHAH ALAM, July 2 — Taman Templer constituency is not just focusing on giving out food aid but also in providing counselling service to help those affected by Covid-19.

Its state assemblyman, Mohd Sany Hamzan said the online initiative will start tomorrow in unison with the enhanced movement control order (EMCO) imposed at the area.

The service provides psychological support as well as discussion on Covid-19 related problems faced by the community.

“Our Community Service Centre (PKM) Educational Bureau has developed the suitable module, therefore should anyone need counselling service, the bureau will talk and advise them throughout the session.

“We understand that Covid-19 has impacted many of us. However, I hope they will not bear the burden alone as I am afraid they will lose control over it and end up commiting suicide,” he said.

He added that the distribution of basic foods such as rice, sugar, flour, sardines and vermicelli noodles to the residents will start on Sunday after receiving all the details of the recipients and police approval.

Meanwhile, Bukit Lanjan state assemblywoman, Elizabeth Wong asks the community to directly contact the PKM if they are having problems and advise them to never resort to suicide.

“Today, some of us might see that there is no other way out but we don’t know about tomorrow. Never lose hope and don’t keep your problems to yourself.

“We are always here to help aside from your family and friends. I would like to urge the public to be more concerned of their neighbours and ensure that everything goes on well throughout EMCO,” she said.

She added that the application for food assistance can be made via contacting 011-69557909 or by sending an email to Iprbukitlanjan@gmail.com. A total of 20 volunteers are tasked to manage the requests.

“The food assistance valued at RM80 to RM100 for each pack can be applied by both the low-income group (B40) or middle-income group (M40),” she said.

As for Dusun Tua state assemblyman Edry Faizal Eddy Yusof, two food bank centres in Kampung Melaka and Kampung Padang have been set up to help the villagers.

He said the centres which operate daily from 9am to 6pm provide 100 food packs.

“We want to provide easy access to the food packs as we understand the challenges that the villagers need to go through during EMCO. Those who are desperate can just take it,” he said.
