Malaysia not affected by heatwave in US, Canada

KUALA LUMPUR, July 2 — Malaysia will not be affected by the current heatwave in Canada and the Pacific Northwest of the United States, according to the Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia).

Its director-general Jailan Simon said, therefore, the people should not worry about the hot weather phenomenon being experienced by the two countries which recorded temperatures up to 47.9 and 56.6 degrees Celcius.

“Malaysia is in the middle of the Southwest Monsoon which is expected to end this September and during the period, the country will experience a lower temperature in July because the weather is more humid and we receive more rainfall than usual.

“This condition is due to the transition from the La Nina phase to the El Nino Southern Oscillation (ENSO) Neutral phase and the country is expected to get normal rainfall from August,” he said in a statement today.

In this regard, he said no unusual hot weather was expected to occur in Malaysia this year and severe cross-border haze incidents were unlikely to happen in the near future.

Jailan also advised the public to be aware of changes in the weather and obtain the latest weather information from MetMalaysia’s website, myCuaca mobile application, social media and hotline at 1-300-22-1638.
