PETALING JAYA, July 1 — No residents or factory workers living in Mentari Court, PJS 8, had fled from the area following the implementation of the enhanced movement control order (EMCO) that starts today.

Petaling Jaya police chief Assistant Commissioner Mohamad Fakhrudin Abdul Hamid said their inspection this morning found that all residents were at their respective homes.

"Starting from 12.01 midnight last night, residents are not allowed to go out. However, before that time, individuals are allowed to move within a radius of 10 kilometres as stipulated," he said today.

According to Mohamad Fakhrudin, a total of 82 policemen and 22 Armed Forces personnel were assigned to monitor the area during the 14-days EMCO period.

Recently, a screenshot shared on social media of a conversation between the management of a factory nearby and its employees staying in Mentari Court had shown the former asking the workers to evacuate their homes.

The conversation also allegedly stated that the factory workers would be relocated to another residential area to ensure the factory operations would not be affected by the EMCO.

Mentari Court is placed under the EMCO due to a surge in Covid-19 cases and high infectivity rate in the area, which houses more than 17,000 residents including foreigners.

On June 29, Senior Minister (Security Cluster) Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob announced the enforcement of the EMCO from July 1 to 14 in three localities in Selangor, including Taman Perumahan SS 91A in Sungai Way and Pangsapuri Westlite in Petaling Jaya.
