KUALA LANGAT, June 29 — Illegal structures which were built on 14 lots of a private jetty area at Jalan Bandar Lama, Telok Panglima Garang, here, will be demolished soon.

State executive councillor for environment Hee Loy Sian said the structures were identified after a fire incident involving 0.37 hectares of recycled waste tires on Saturday.

“Based on the investigation, we found that seven out of the 14 lots in the jetty area have industrial status without planning approval. The remaining lots are for agriculture and did not meet operating conditions.

“The landowners have applied to change the land’s status to industrial land in 2018 and were required to pay RM1 million for the land premium. However, they did not pay for it,” he said after visiting the burning site today.

Loy Sian said the waste was imported from Australia and it was used as fuel for a recycling factory in Chemor, Perak, and a cement factory in Langkawi, Kedah.

“We ask the Ministry of Housing and Local Government (KPKT) to stop issuing import permits of this kind of waste materials as it is not accepted by other countries too.

“Furthermore, the Port Klang Authority needs to take action too because the private jetty is under their control,” he said.

Hee explained that other than demolishing the structures, other actions can also be taken by the Environmental Department (JAS) under Section 29(A) and Section 22(2)(b) of the Environmental Quality Act 1974.
