SHAH ALAM, June 18 — The Selangor Speaker will seek the consent of the Sultan of Selangor to enable the State Legislative Assembly to reconvene in August.

Ng Suee Lim said he will write a letter to Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah Alhaj soon and act accordingly upon receiving the consent of His Royal Highness.

"However if the proposed date is still during the Emergency period, then Selangor Menteri Besar (Dato' Seri Amirudin Shari) will seek the consent of the Yang di-Pertuan Agong (Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri'ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah).

"This is because we do not know whether the Federal government will extend the Emergency period that is supposed to end on August 1," he told Selangorkini.

Yesterday, Amirudin said he would discuss with Ng on plans to reconvene the assembly sitting as soon as possible.

On Wednesday, Istana Negara Comptroller of the Royal Household Datuk Ahmad Fadil Shamsuddin said that the King had called for the Parliament to be reconvened as soon as possible to allow the Emergency Ordinance and the National Recovery Plan to be debated by members of the Dewan Rakyat.

The view was expressed after His Majesty chaired a special meeting of Malay Rulers held at Istana Negara to discuss efforts to combat Covid-19.

This was followed by a joint statement from the Malay Rulers expressing the view that the state of emergency need not be extended beyond August 1.

The Malay Rulers also expressed that the state legislative assemblies in their respective states should be allowed to reconvene as soon as possible.
