SHAH ALAM, June 15 — As many as 10,000 Bandar Utama residents affected by the Covid-19 pandemic are expected to benefit from the Mesra Rakyat Programme, says its state assemblyman Jamaliah Jamaluddin.

She said the Selangor government’s move to increase the community service allocation for state assemblyman to RM100,000 will enable more people to be helped following the enforcement of the full movement control order (MCO).

“Usually we will give out food aid worth RM50 or more than RM100. The food aid worth more than RM100 contained an additional item which is Vitamin C and is given to those who are Covid-19.

Meanwhile Sentosa state assemblyman Dr G Gunarajah said the additional allocation enables assistance to the affected groups to be given out more comprehensively.

“Many residents in my area lost their income or jobs and this indirectly increases the number of B40 low-income group.

“Currently a total of 700 individuals receive assistance every Friday, while 300 families receive monthly assistance through the food bank initiative,” he said.

As for Taman Medan state assemblyman Syamsul Firdaus Mohamed Supri, his team will go through the types of assistance that could be given to the people.

“The allocation is desperately needed as many are affected due to the loss of income and this assistance is one of the ways to continue their survival,” he said.

On June 9, the Selangor government has outlined 14 initiatives under the first strategy of the Kita Selangor Package 2.0 to safeguard the welfare of the people and their survival in facing the Covid-19 pandemic.
