MB: More than 100,000 people participated in Selangor’s mass screenings

SABAK BERNAM, June 10 — More than 100,000 individuals in Selangor have participated in the free Covid-19 community screenings organised by the state government since it was introduced last year.

Selangor Menteri Besar Dato' Seri Amirudin Shari said the total number involved two phases with both exceeding its targeted expectations.

“The first phase was during the movement control order (MCO) 1.0 to MCO 2.0, we screened more than 26,000 people and for the next phase up until today, we have screened 97,565 people.

"Combined with the 26,000 that have been screened, it exceeds 100,000, which has already exceeded the target set, which is 20,000 in the first phase and 50,000 in the second phase," he said after visiting the free community screening at Dewan Seri Sekinchan here, for the Sekinchan state constituency.

On plans for the next phase of the community screenings, Amirudin said it would be done in the near future with targets in locations with high infections rate.

“We are targeting state constituencies that have a rate of more than five per cent, among them in Gombak, which we found to have reached the infection rate of eight per cent. We will do a follow-up on the location of the infection in the area.

"If there is a capacity and need to go from house to house, we will do so aside from ‘ambushing’ industrial areas by conducting screenings at factories," he said.

Selangor has held the mass screening operation throughout its 56 state constituencies beginning May 8 until today.

As of last Tuesday, a total of 95,561 samples were taken using the Antigen Rapid Test Kit (RTK-Ag), out of which 3,330 are suspected positive Covid-19.
