SHAH ALAM, June 10 — Livestock in Selangor would undergo inspection before slaughter by certified inspectors to ensure that the meat product is safe to be consumed.
Selangor Veterinary Services Department (VSD) director Dr Hassuzana Khalil had given the assurance following the detection of cattle and buffaloes infected with the lumpy skin disease (LSD) in the country.
"Many consumers are hesitant to buy meat due to LSD disease. Therefore, the consumers can check for themselves the official tag or stamp on the carcass of the meat sold.
"The consumers can also check the inspection confirmation letter issued (to the sellers)," she told SelangorKini yesterday.
Dr Hassuzana said the state VSD Enforcement Division will ensure that only livestock slaughtered in valid abattoirs is sold at public and farmers' markets.
On June 2, the state department had detected the first suspected case of LSD in Selangor.
State executive councillor for agriculture Izham Hashim said the case was detected after five cows in Gombak had shown signs of LSD infection.
