Selangor Sultan calls for vaccine administration to be expedited

SHAH ALAM, June 8 — The Sultan of Selangor Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah has today called on the Special Committee on Covid-19 Vaccine Supply Access Guarantee (JKJAV) to speed up and increase the number of vaccine doses administered for the people in Selangor.

In a statement issued by his private secretary Datuk Mohamad Munir Bani, the Selangor Ruler had expressed his shock over the disproportionate vaccine allocation in the state as the Covid-19 Immunisation Task Force (CITF) had confirmed that Selangor had only received 615,210 doses of Covid-19 vaccine and not 2.9 million doses as claimed, as of June 1.

"It is unfair when the ratio of the total supply of vaccine doses currently is not balanced with the total population of all the residents in Selangor numbering 6.5 million," the statement read, also citing the increase in daily infections and the alarming number of deaths in the state.

The Selangor Sultan had suggested the opening of more vaccination centres in the state, particularly in the rural areas, as well as setting up drive-through vaccination centres or mobile clinics in order to speed up the immunisation drive in Selangor.

Sultan Sharafuddin also preached to those who have received the Covid-19 vaccine shot to remain alert and careful

He urged the people to continue to abide by the standard operating procedures, such as wearing face masks, practise social distancing, always ensuring personal hygiene and only leaving the house when necessary.

Meanwhile, the Selangor Sultan also expressed his disappointment with anti-vaccine groups in Selangor and had urged that the public would not be easily influenced by the distorted understanding of such groups, stressing that vaccines could save lives, especially from the Covid-19 pandemic.

The Selangor Ruler also praised the Selangor government’s efforts in conducting the free mass Covid-19 screening test for the people in Selangor, which had begun from May 8 until June 10 throughout the 56 state constituencies.
