GOMBAK, May 18 — The number of people participating in the Selangor’s free Covid-19 screening has increased after the Hari Raya Aidilfitri holidays compared to the previous month.
Selcare Clinic manager Mohd Noor Md Nasir the rise in number reflects the raised awareness among the public on the recent upsurge in Covid-19 cases in the state.
“Previously, we saw about 1,000 participants coming forth, which had made our target, and the number had also reached 1,600 people.
“But today, the first day since we started the testing programme after Aidilfitri, as of 11am, we already saw 2,240 people registered in Hulu Kelang and another 1,700 in Bukit Antarabangsa,” said Mohd Noor Md Nasir when met at the screening initiative at Dewan Serbaguna MPAJ in AU2, here today.
He added he hoped that the people would continue grabbing the opportunity to get themselves tested to ensure that they know their health statuses.
The Selangor government is conducting active monitoring of the Covid-19 situation by initiating free screenings across the 56 state constituencies beginning May 8 until June 10.
The screening operations have been carried out in Kajang, Semenyih, Sungai Ramal, Balakong, Teratai, Dusun Tua, Lembah Jaya, Pandan Indah, Bukit Antarabangsa and Hulu Kelang.
Meanwhile, Mohd Noor added that Selcare Clinic is prepared to get students from higher learning institutions to be screened for Covid-19 when they return back to campus after the Hari Raya holiday.
He said this is to curb the spread of the infection on campus after the return of the students from various different locations.
“I am concerned that there are students who have returned from red zones and if they are not tested, they may bring back the virus.
“For example, Kuala Selangor is a green zone but when the students return to campus, the area can turn to a red zone if these students are not screened earlier,” said Mohd Noor, adding that the decision to screen the students will be made by the state government.
Over 100,000 varsity students staying on campus have been permitted to return back to their hometown in stages from May 7 to 12 for the Hari Raya break.
The date for the students to return back to campus has been set between May 15 and 20.
