SABAK BERNAM, May 8 — A 28 -year-old woman becomes the youngest individual to be appointed to lead the Village Community Management Council (MPKK) in Selangor.

Nur Farehan Nieza Osman described her appointment as the village head or MPKK chairman at Kampung Parit 16 Binjai Patah, Mukim Sungai Panjang as recognition to young women (belia wanita).

“The trust (amanah) that is given to me is very big, especially when I first held the post, as the acceptance by the community were divided.

"However, after eight months, the community began to support and work together to make MPKK programme a success for the benefit of all," she said after receiving her letter of appointment at Dewan Seri Sekinchan here yesterday.

A total of 79 individuals, including six women, received their letters of appointment as MPKK chairman in Sabak Bernam district from state executive councillor for rural development Borhan Aman Shah.

Meanwhile, MPKK chairman for Kampung Parit 5/6 Gambut Mukim Panchang Bendena, Mas Lina Husein, 40, said being a village head gives her the opportunity to reach out to single mothers.

"Previously, most single mothers are not comfortable interacting with men, so helping them became one of my main goals," she said.

Salasiah Sahak, 45, who is MPKK chairman of Kampung Parot 16, Binjai Jaya, Mukim Sungai Panjang, hopes that more women will have the opportunity to lead the village administration.

"The appointment of more women is in line with the target of 30 per cent involvement of this group at the village level," said Salasiah who was appointed as village head in 2018.
