SHAH ALAM, May 1 — A total of RM33,000 were collected from fare charged on foreigners who used the Selangor Smart Bus service.

State executive councillor for transport Ng Sze Han said the amount was collected in one month since the fare for foreigners was introduced on March 15.

“Free buses are only for locals. We do not prevent foreigners from using the bus service but they have to pay 90 sen for a one-way trip,” he said.

Starting mid-March, foreigners are charged a fare to cover some of the costs required by the state government and local authorities in expanding and providing the best facilities to the public.

Only foreigners aged between 18 and 59 will be charged 90 sen per person for each time they board or disembark regardless of destinations.

Users are required to use the “Scan To Ride” function when using the bus service, that is, when boarding and disembarking the Smart Selangor buses through the Citizen E-Payment application (CEPat).
