Selangor sets three conditions on CMCO recommendations, says MB

RAWANG, April 30 — The Selangor government has set three conditions on the recommendations for the implementation of the conditional movement control order (CMCO) in the state for the consideration of the Federal administration.

Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari said the conditions include the increase in Covid-19 cases, infections involving public areas and the increased rate in the use of beds at the intensive care units.

“We have brought forth several suggestions but what is important is that the changes made to the implementation of the CMCO should be at a suitable timing and not be done drastically.

“That is why we had proposed the starting date but the recommendations will first be discussed at the federal level and finalised under the Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases Act 1988 (Act 342),” said Amirudin at a press conference here today.

He said the state has today held a special meeting with the Selangor Security Council Committee to review the enforced CMCO following the spike in Covid-19 cases in the state.

“We hope that the Federal government would announce something this evening or tomorrow and I will meet with the mayors and presidents of the local authorities based on the announcement made,” he said.

Amirudin added that transmission at workplaces have been under control in the past few months and stated that it is the infections within the community that is a cause for concern.

“Therefore, we have to take action to break the chain of infection as we do not want to become like Italy or India,” he said.

Today, Selangor recorded 1,265 new Covid-19 cases out of the total 3,788 infections registered nationwide.

The state has recorded a four-digit figure for three consecutive days, with 1,083 infections reported yesterday and 1,019 cases on April 28.
