Covid-19 screening to be held in areas near schools next week — MB

SHAH ALAM, April 20 — Covid-19 community screenings will be conducted in localities near schools in Selangor beginning next week to curb the increase in the number of cases in the ‘school cluster’.

Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari said the targetted localities will be assessed by a task force consisting of the Selangor State Health Department (JKNS), Selangor State Education Department, Selangor Disaster Management Unit and several district offices.

“The drive-through method will probably be implemented so that we can contain the spread of the outbreak within the community.

“The state government will help the JKNS in conducting the screening operation. It will also be held in residential areas where students have been tested positive for Covid-19 as well as their close contacts from the schools that have been identified,” said the Menteri Besar in a video posted on Facebook yesterday.

He said as of April 19, there are 12 active clusters involving schools in the state while another four have ended.

“The state government takes the matter seriously as it involves students, teachers and school officers.

“Parents are advised to not send their children to school if they are showing Covid-19 symptoms and refer to the nearest health facility for further treatment and be screened by JKNS,” he said.

Last week, the Selangor administration had monitored closely the spread of the outbreak in schools, which include tracking down the source of the infection and its potential spread, before taking further action.
