SHAH ALAM, March 29 — The Selangor government plans to revise its 2021 budget after the Hari Raya festival as the Covid-19 pandemic has yet to show signs of stopping.
Its Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari said new expenditures must be formulated by postponing certain projects to enable more assistance to be channelled to the low-income groups and small traders.
“There may be projects or programmes that could not be implemented at the beginning of the year following the implementation of the movement control order (MCO).
"We expect to review the budget in May or June, but it is subjected to the latest status of the Emergency, on whether we can hold the State Legislative Assembly sitting or not," he told reporters when met during Yayasan Hijrah Selangor’s 6th Anniversary celebration at the Selangor Public Library Corporation (PPAS) today.
Commenting further, Amirudin said the process of holding a sitting now requires the consent of the Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah.
“If there is a need in terms of amending or tabling bills, then the consent of the Istana Negara is required.
"Currently, the Treasury Department and the state financial officer are updating the amendments on allocations for certain programmes, after everything is completed, we can implement the next step," he said.
