AMPANG, March 29 — The Selcare Clinic is confident that 50,000 individuals will undergo the state government's free Covid-19 community screening programme by August.
Its manager Mohd Noor Md Nasir said the screening initiative which began in February will be held in the next six months to ensure that the target is met.
“Apart from streamlining existing strategies, the screening programme will be informed to the public before the date of the operation with the help of local leaders and resident associations.
“Even though the vaccination programme has kicked off, the testing initiatives will be carried out throughout the period where we will also focus on areas that have low vaccination records,” he said when met during the Covid-19 testing operation at the Ampang Jaya Multipurpose Hall in Kampung Pandan, here yesterday.
Mohd Noor said the number of individuals to have taken part in the screening programme, which was held since February 5, has reached almost 8,000.
He said 80 per cent of the figure involved Malaysian citizens and the remaining number are foreigners.
“Most of the participants had cooperated well and the foreigners had also shown commitment to getting themselves screened.
“However, the registration process for the foreigners would take some time as many of them are not familiar with information technology, so they had to do it manually over the counter with the help of the workers,” he said.
Through the Kita Selangor Package revealed on January 20, the state government has allocated a total RM6 million to hold the free community testing initiative throughout Selangor to break the Covid-19 chain of infection.
The programme is expected to reach 50,000 people in Selangor, focusing on targetted groups such as senior citizens, low-income households and students.
