MB: Ramadan bazaars opening set by local authorities with strict SOPs

SHAH ALAM, March 19 — The number of Ramadan bazaars allowed to operate in Selangor depends on the ability of the local authority (PBT) to operate it with the implementation of strict standard operating procedures (SOP).

Selangor Menteri Besar Dato' Seri Amirudin Shari said the councils have the right to limit the number of bazaars to prevent Covid-19 infection.

“If we allow all Ramadan bazaars to operate, it is feared that there will be new clusters. Therefore, once again, it is reminded that the SOP needs to adhere as many have yet to receive the vaccine,” he said.

He said this after receiving the second dose of the Covid-19 vaccine at the Shah Alam Hospital here yesterday.

At the same time, Amirudin said the state government encourage traders and visitors to the Ramadan bazaar to use online payment services and e-wallet to reduce contact during transactions.

According to him, the e-Kitchen and e-Bazaar Raya initiatives will also be continued this year to help food and drinks traders market their products virtually as well as compete in the digital market.

On Tuesday, Senior Minister (Security) Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob announced permission to allow Ramadan and Aidilfitri bazaars nationwide to operate this year with strict SOPs.
