KLANG, March 11 — A sawmill built on a one-acre land belonging to the Selangor government at Jalan Jeti in Port Klang, here, has been demolished today.

The operation headed by the Klang District Assistant Officer Mohammad Saiful Azri Fouzi was conducted alongside more than 50 enforcers from the Klang Municipal Council (MPK), National Water Services Commission (SPAN), Department of Irrigation and Drainage (JPS) as well as Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB).

Besides the factory, the local authority also knocked down a store and workers’ hostel which were situated 50 metres from Sungai Aur.

Mohammad Saiful said the authorities had already issued three vacancy notices dated December 4, 2018; January 15, 2019, and February 3, 2021, which went unheeded.

“Legal actions will be taken according to Section 425 and 426A of the National Land Code 1965, and upon conviction, the owner will face jail sentence of not more than five years or fine of up to RM500,000, or both,” he said.

On November 24 last year, Selangor Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari had instructed local authorities to demolish (illegal) premises built on state-owned lands, especially structures constructed near the rivers.
