SEPANG, March 9 — The Selangor state government is evaluating the need to hold a state assembly meeting despite not having urgent needs to do so during the emergency now, said Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari.
He said any needs to hold an assembly session should first obtain the consent of the Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah as matters on the state assembly or Dewan Rakyat are provided in the Emergency Ordinance signed by the King.
“The Selangor state government will be holding discussions on whether there is a need to hold a meeting or not,” he told reporters yesterday after visiting Taman Seroja, Bandar Baru Salak Tinggi here which was hit by a storm on Saturday.
Amirudin said the state government or through the assembly will seek an audience with the Yang di-Pertuan Agong if there was a need to amend any laws or to pass any bills including the supply bill.
Several state assemblymen in Selangor such as Mohd Fakhrulrazi Mohd Mokhtar (Meru), Chua Wei Kiat (Rawang) and Najwan Halimi (Kota Anggerik) hoped an assembly session would be held quickly after the Yang di-Pertuan Agong expressed the view that the Parliament can meet during an emergency.
On the assistance of the state government for victims of the storm, in Sepang, Amirudin said a one-off aid of RM500 would be channelled this week.
He said he was also waiting for the report on the cost and types of damages from the Sepang Disaster Management Committee, the Land and District Office and Sepang Municipal Council (MPS) to look into further action or aid.
The incident at about 5pm on Saturday damaged more than 100 houses in the area.
