SHAH ALAM, Feb 24 — Any government agencies that wish to open a childcare centre (taska) at their workplace must apply through the Social Welfare Department (JKM).

State executive councillor for women empowerment and family Dr Siti Mariah Mahmud said the move would give assurance to the parents, especially those in the frontline, of their child’s safety.

“Most of the temporary childcare centres set up by the state government operates permanently in hospitals and government departments, therefore I urge other government agencies to apply immediately with JKM.

“The guidelines and conditions for the application can be found on the department’s website,” she said after the distribution Covid-19 sanitation kits here yesterday.

Dr Siti Mariah also suggested the Local Government and Housing Ministry to set a mandatory condition for Planning Permission to include childcare centres for areas with large capacity.

The state government has provided temporary childcare centre at public hospitals and temporary premises to ease the burden of frontliners who are working during the Covid-19 pandemic.

The initiative with a total cost of RM1 million is part of the Kita Selangor Package and would benefit almost 400 families of frontliners in the state.
