SHAH ALAM, Feb 13 — The Chinese New Year celebration time during the Covid-19 pandemic was used by state representatives to meet their constituents.

Balakong state assemblyman Wong Siew Ki said as she cannot return to her hometown in Ipoh, Perak, she spent the time available on New Year’s Eve cooking.

“Usually I spent that time in the kitchen with my family members, but due to the new norms, I used it to cheer up others.

“The food I cooked on New Year’s Eve, I gave to the security guards at my home as a sign of appreciation for them who have sacrificed a lot in keeping the resident safe,” she told SelangorKini.

Meanwhile, Subang Jaya assemblyman Michelle Ng Mei Sze still have the time to meet the people and visit several locations including Subang Permai and Indah Court on the morning of the festivities.

“Because I cannot visit my family members like previously, I spent the time to listen to the residents’ problems.

“At least I can help the Subang Permai residents find the cause of the clogged drain, which apparently is due to a concrete spill while the residents are renovating their house," she said.

At the same time, Michelle said, she also handed over 100 free food packets to Indah Court residents representative.

As for Sekinchan assemblyman, Ng Suee Lim informed that the Chinese New Year celebration in his constituency this time is very different.

He said the previous celebration in Sekinchan was very lively because the family members of residents from Kuala Lumpur, Singapore and other states will return to the village.

"But the celebration this time was very gloomy, although we have installed more than 2,000 lanterns in all locations, yet the atmosphere is not like before.

"Nevertheless, all this is done to break the Covid-19 chains, hopefully, it will pass quickly and we will be reunited with the family," he said.
