KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 12 — Two men were detained after they were found selling and possessing firecrackers and fireworks without any valid permit in a raid in the Taman Muda area, Ampang Jaya here, on Wednesday.

Ampang Jaya police chief ACP Mohamad Farouk Eshak said the two suspects, who were behaving in a suspicious manner, were arrested at 10 pm along with 156 boxes containing various types of firecrackers and fireworks worth RM1,500, found in two vehicles belonging to them.

He said his team had previously received information from a complainant regarding the sales activities.

"When they arrived, the police made an observation before approaching the two men who were busy selling various types of firecrackers and fireworks.

"The inspection revealed the two suspects, aged 57 and 58, had no permit to sell, own or buy fireworks issued by the Ampang Jaya district police chief," he said in a statement, yesterday.

Mohamad Farouk said the policemen then inspected two cars parked nearby and found firecrackers and fireworks stored inside.

"Following that, the two suspects were remanded for three days to assist in the investigation," he said.
