Police not expecting significant influx of vehicles during CNY festive period

KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 12 — Police do not expect a significant influx of vehicles nationwide during the Chinese New Year festival, which begins today.

Bukit Aman Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department (JSPT) director Datuk Azisman Alias said this was because the interdistrict and interstate travel restriction was still in force following the implementation of the movement control order (MCO).

“I want to warn that any individual who tries to make interstate or interdistrict travel will face legal action according to Act 342 (Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases Act 1988),” he told Bernama yesterday.

He said there was no plan to increase police personnel to monitor traffic flow as the existing number was sufficient to carry out roadblock and other operations during the festive period.

Meanwhile, Kuala Lumpur police have stepped up traffic enforcement for the festive period when they launched the week-long Op Lancar on February 9.

Kuala Lumpur JSPT chief ACP Zulkefly Yahya said Op Lancar was to ensure the smooth flow of traffic and monitor the people’s movement in focused areas, among them roads leading in and out of the capital as well as shopping centres.

“Op Lancar is being implemented by four teams, including the static and mobile teams, involving four officers and 60 personnel,” he said when contacted.
