SHAH ALAM, Feb 2 — Late reporting of Covid-19 screening results would hamper the efforts by the authorities in tracking the actual number of coronavirus infections in the country.
Therefore, Selgate Corporation (Selgate) chief executive officer Noor Hisham Mohd Ghouth had agreed that private clinics and hospitals that were late to report the Covid-19 screening results should be compounded.
“We (Selgate) report the cases daily via the Public Health Laboratory Information System (Simka).
“It is the responsibility of medical practitioners like us to lodge the report and I would ensure that the report sent by Selgate is done daily,” he said when contacted.
On Saturday, Selangor Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari said that the Selangor State Health Department (JKNS) will issue compounds on private clinics or hospitals that do not report positive cases immediately.
The joint decision was made on January 30 by the Selangor Security Council Committee to discuss the rise in coronavirus cases in the state as well as measures to break the chain of the Covid-19 infection.
The Health Ministry (MOH) had said the sharp increase in Covid-19 cases exceeding 5,000 last week was due to delays in cases being reported to the National Crisis Preparedness and Response Centre (CPRC) that included last year's infection.
Covid-19 infection remained at over the 5,000-mark for three consecutive days, 5,298 cases on Sunday, Saturday (5,728) and Friday (5,725).
