State vaccination programme to speed up herd immunity — MB

SHAH ALAM, Feb 2 — The Selangor vaccination plan would assist the Federal government to accelerate the inoculation process and speed up the herd immunity process in the country.

Herd immunity refers to how protected a community is against an illness, such as the Covid-19.

Selangor Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari said the programme involves both the local communities as well as the foreign nationals living and working in the Klang Valley.

“The decision to vaccinate foreign workers does not mean we are sidelining our citizens, because what is the rationale of immunising the local people when they (foreign workers) are the virus carrier?”

“Having said that, we may charge the foreign workers some small fees as compared to the locals who will receive it for free,” said Amirudin during the Agenda Awani talk show broadcasted last night.

On January 18, Amirudin had said that the state government intends to purchase five million doses of Covid-19 vaccine for the people in the state.

The measure was received well by the Health Ministry (MOH) as it was seen as a way to help lighten the Federal government’s burden in supplying the vaccine to the people.
