SINGAPORE, Jan 31 — A 21-year-old Malaysian man was among 54 new asymptomatic Covid-19 imported cases reported in Singapore Saturday, according to the republic’s Ministry of Health.
The ministry, in its full data released here late last night, said the work permit holder arrived from Malaysia.
As at noon Saturday, Singapore recorded 55 new imported cases, of which 54 were asymptomatic and was symptomatic.
The other imported cases were from Bangladesh, Bahrain, France, India, Indonesia, Myanmar, Russia, Romania, the United Arab Emirates, and the United Kingdom.
A 51-year-old Singaporean man who returned from Malaysia is also among the asymptomatic imported cases here, whereby his serology test has come back positive.
The city-state also reported three locally transmitted Covid-19 infections Saturday, all symptomatic, thus bringing the total number of infections here to 59,507.
One of the cases involved a 72-year-old Singaporean man who is employed by Certis Cisco as an aviation screening officer at Changi Airport Terminal 1.
His test result came back positive for Covid-19 infection on January 29, while his serology test result has come back negative, indicating that this is likely a current infection.
He received his first dose of the Pfizer-BioNTech Covid-19 vaccine on January 25 at the vaccination centre located at Changi Airport Terminal 4.
"As the vaccine does not contain live virus, he could not have been infected due to vaccination. It is possible for one to be infected just before or just after vaccination as it typically takes a few weeks for an individual to build up immunity after completing vaccination," said the ministry.
Singapore has closed two clusters on Saturday, thus, leaving four at the moment.
