KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 15 — Courier companies warn that there will be a disruption to their services following the re-imposition of the movement control order (MCO).
The Association of Malaysian Express Carriers (AMEC) said in a statement today that it is due to flight cancellations between Peninsular and East Malaysia, as well as other MCO restrictions.
As a result, there could be an inability to deliver packages to customers, but “on the other hand, industry players must adapt and quickly reorganize to deliver and meet increasing demands’’.
Therefore, AMEC has declared a force majeure until such time the Covid-19 pandemic can be contained and transportation services return to normal.
‘’AMEC reassures that members licensed under the Postal Services Act 2012 are taking precautionary measures to comply with the relevant provisions in the Guidelines and Preventive Measures on Postal Service Providers, as prescribed by the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission," it added.
AMEC said it supports the move by the Malaysian government to flatten the Covid-19 curve.
The government has re-imposed the MCO in Penang, Selangor, the Federal Territories, Melaka, Johor and Sabah from January 13 - 26.
Another six states -- Pahang, Perak, Negeri Sembilan, Kedah, Terengganu and Kelantan – are under the conditional movement control order (CMCO), while Perlis and Sarawak are under the recovery movement control order (RMCO).
