KUCHING, Jan 14 — The Sarawak government has decided to enforce the movement control order (MCO) for the Sibu Division for 14 days from this Saturday (January 16) until January 29.
The State Disaster Management Committee (JPBN) in a statement here today said the decision was taken due to the spike in Covid-19 cases in the division the last several days.
According to the statement, the MCO covers the Sibu, Kanowit and Selangau districts.
“The standard operating procedures (SOPs) related to this MCO will be made known to the public tomorrow. The conditional movement control order (CMCO) for the Sarikei Division is being maintained,” the statement said.
Meanwhile, JPBN in the statement also announced that all Malaysians and non-Malaysians planning to enter Sarawak from the peninsula, Sabah and Labuan are required to undergo RT-PCR screening three days before entering the state.
"The test result must be negative (to be allowed to enter Sarawak) and must be submitted with the enterSarawak application. This directive is effective January 16,” said the statement.
Today, Sarawak recorded three-digits new positive Covid-19 cases for the fourth straight day in a row with 180 cases reported, which is the highest daily number reported thus far.
The figure brought Sarawak's tally of positive Covid-19 cases to 1,920.
