SHAH ALAM, Dec 30 — 381 dengue cases were reported in Selangor between December 20 and 26.

Selangor State Health Department director Datuk Dr Sha’ari Ngadiman said the total was an increase of 5.8 per cent compared to the 360 cases in the previous week.

“However, 43,322 dengue cases were recorded as of week 52, a drop of 38.9 per cent, compared to the same period last year which recorded 72,543 cases.

“Five districts that recorded the highest dengue cases were Petaling with 15,420 cases, Hulu Langat (9,737 cases), Klang (6,930 cases), Gombak (6,588 cases) and Sepang (2,392 cases),” said Dr Sha’ari in a statement.

According to him, a total of 37 dengue-related deaths were recorded, a drop of 33.9 per cent as compared to 56 cases in the same period last year.

Therefore, he urged the public to practise preventive measures by ensuring the cleanliness of their premises and residences to stop the Aedes mosquitoes from breeding.

“Spend just 10 minutes a week to get rid of unused water containers around the house/premises and keep the water storage containers closed at all times or apply abate to eliminate the mosquito larvae,” he said.
