SHAH ALAM, Dec 16 — The Selangor Zakat Board (LZS) has allocated RM34.6 million to be distributed to 32,722 heads of asnaf (those eligible for tithe) families in the state to help with their children’s schooling next year.
LZS chief executive officer, Saipolyazan Mohd Yusop, said this year the aid will be distributed to 1,104 pre-schoolers; 33,485 primary pupils and pupils in primary religious schools as well as 35,669 national secondary and religious secondary school students.
He said each child will receive RM100 to RM200 to pay for their school fees.
“They also receive aid to buy school items amounting to RM170 for primary school students; RM150 for religious primary school students and RM200 for national secondary school and religious secondary school students,” he said at a handing over of aid ceremony here, today.
Saipolyazan added that the number of school aid recipients for the 2021 school year has increased to 70,258 from 65,000 this year.
He said the school fees aid would be credited into the bank accounts of the heads of the families or via cash vouchers for those without bank accounts which could be redeemed at all Bank Islam branches.
Meanwhile, Saipolyazan said using the cashless ‘E-Taisir’ approach, the heads of the families could use their MyKad to redeem school items sold at selected supermarkets.
Recipients living in the Hulu Langat, Kuala Langat and Sepang districts could redeem the aid through the cooperation forged between LZS and Teraju Ekonomi Asnaf Sdn Bhd, he added.
Meanwhile, Azli Ibrahim, 43, a father of five whose income as a burger seller is affected by the enforcement of the Movement Control Order, expressed his gratitude to LZS for helping ease his family’s burden.
