Help more businesses to get halal certification — Exco

SHAH ALAM, Dec 15 — The International Muslim Friendly Affiliation Network (Imfan) programme is set to expand to qualify more businesses to obtain halal certificates.

State executive councillor for halal industry Mohd Zawawi Ahmad Mughni said the target for next year would include micro-entrepreneurs who are registered with Hijrah Selangor.

“Not all products require the halal 'sijil', however, for those that do, we will assist them through designated agencies to lead them further in (in obtaining the certificate),” he said.

Speaking on the Dakwah Image and Halal Food Controversy talk programme on Media Selangor’s Bual Bicara talk show last night, Zawawi said the Imfan programme had received positive reviews since it was launched two years ago.

Imfan is a programme by the Selangor government through the Halal International Selangor and Hijrah Selangor initiatives to assist micro-entrepreneurs to obtain the halal certificate through certain modules.

The state administration targets to assist at least 2,000 businesses to obtain the halal certification through the programme.
