RAWANG, Dec 10 — Two more premises operating illegally on state-owned reserves at Batu 17, here, were demolished today to prevent recurring river pollution incident.

The demolition of the used items warehouse and door manufacturing factory was carried out in a joint operation by the Gombak Land and District Office (PTD) with the Selayang Municipal Council (MPS).

Both temporary structures were built without approval on a 1,976 hectares of land located less than two metres away from the Sungai Selangor river basin, and is believed to have been in operation for about 20 years.

Yesterday, MPS demolished three structures including a heavy machinery workshop, a recycling factory and a cattle barn in Kuala Garing, here.

On December 1, local authorities had sealed a heavy machinery maintenance factory that operated illegally on the river’s reserve land here.

The authorities had demolished two heavy machinery storage and reparation workshops on November 24 located just one metre away from Sungai Rawang.

Selangor Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari had previously said eight illegal premises along the river banks of Sungai Rawang will be demolished.

He said the premises involve six heavy machinery workshops and two recycling factories.

On September 8, Sultan of Selangor, Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah Alhaj decreed that stronger enforcement action to include demolishing illegal houses and factories near river banks to prevent incidents of pollution in Selangor’s waterways.

His Royal Highness expressed great disappointment over the grievances and plight of the people facing water supply disruptions while struggling with the Covid-19 pandemic.
