SHAH ALAM, Dec 7 — Pengurusan Air Selangor Sdn Bhd (Air Selangor) allocates an estimated total expenditure of RM35 billion in the next 30 years to improve its water supply quality.

Its chief executive officer Suhaimi Kamaralzaman said the total spending will be used to repair old pipes, water treatment plants, water storage tanks as well as the construction of new treatment plant.

“Air Selangor is the largest operator in Malaysia that supplies water to 8.4 million users in Selangor, Kuala Lumpur, and Putrajaya.

“Therefore, we have to plan out on improving the efficiency of the operations and at the same time ensure that there is enough quality water supply,” he said in a talk show on Astro Awani last night.

Suhaimi said Air Selangor supplies an average water supply of 5 million litres per day (MLD) and the amount equals the combined supply channelled to the consumers in Johor, Penang, Terengganu and Perak.

He added that as the water concessionaire company is tasked to treat water from rivers and lake, Air Selangor has 34 plants that supply water to the users via water pipes that stretch 79,000 kilometres in length.
