Selangor Super League team is now Selangor FC

KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 2 — The Selangor Super League team will be officially known as Selangor FC (SFC) following the privatisation of the Malaysian League in the country, starting next year.

Football Association of Selangor (FAS) in a statement yesterday, said the football team is owned by the professional football entity, namely Red Giants FC Sdn Bhd.

Among the shareholders of the company is the Raja Muda of Selangor Tengku Amir Shah Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah Alhaj as a golden shareholder, Selangor State Development Corporation (PKNS), Menteri Besar Selangor Incorporated (MBI) and also FAS.

"Through this privatisation, I see the direction of Selangor football is in line with the modern football industry because it is more progressive and more forward-looking,” Tengku Amir Shah said.

"This will also encourage local and foreign investors to get involved in the sport while at the same time, we can focus fully on two different missions through SFC and FAS,” he added.

According to FAS, the Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) has approved the privatisation of Selangor Super League team on September 29, before the separation between FAS and SFC takes effect yesterday.

FAS also revealed that FAS secretary-general, Dr Johan Kamal Hamidon has been appointed as SFC chief executive officer, while the FAS head of competition unit, Muhammad Izrin Nabil will take over Dr Johan's role as new FAS secretary-general.

The statement also added that Tengku Amir Shah still remains as the SFC chairman and FAS president despite both organisations now separated.

"I know Johan (Dr Johan) and Nabil (Izrin Nabil) well enough because they have been working with me for the past five years. They are individuals who are committed and honest in carrying out the duties and responsibilities given, especially in the development of football in the state," Tengku Amir Shah explained.

"I hope the people of Selangor and supporters of the Red Giants team, can give their trust and cooperation to these two individuals in their efforts to restore the glory of Selangor football," he added.
