SHAH ALAM, Nov 15 — More than 800,000 people in Selangor were found to be lacking the digital knowledge and have yet to adjust to the growing digitalisation ecosystem.

Selangor’s Menteri Besar Incorporated (MBI) digitalisation chief Kamarul Nizam Kassim said those who have yet to become digitally savvy include the senior citizens, small businesses and micro industries as well as youths in the lower-income group (B40).

Malaysian do not know how to use the internet and in Selangor, we are looking at about 831,000 individuals.

“Therefore, MBI has taken the initiative to appoint 1,000 digital peers to identify and help the target groups,” he said during a recent talk show coordinated by Media Selangor.

Kamarul Nizam said the Selangor government have to speed up the digitalisation process within the community to enable the latter to adapt to the new norms post-Covid-19.

“The state representatives also have to play their role in educating the public in their constituencies on the importance and benefits of digitalisation,” he added.

A total of RM3 million was allocated in the 2021 Selangor Budget in ensuring improvements made to the quality of life of the elderly, small and medium enterprises, micro-industry as well as youths in the B40 group.
