SHAH ALAM, Nov 13 — A total of 1,980 youths from the urban poor group has benefitted from the Selangor Roda Darul Ehsan Initiative (RiDE).

Selangor executive councillor for youth Mohd Khairuddin Othman said the remaining 1,020 quota will be filled before December 31 to achieve the programme’s target of 3,000 participants.

“A total of 22,321 applications were submitted since registration was opened on August 1, and the selection was made based on a first-come-first-serve basis.

“Successful applicants will get a B2 motorcycle license subsidy amounting to RM350 and a Social Security Organisation (Socso) contribution of RM70 per year,” he said to SelangorKini today.

He said participants will also be enrolled into e-hailing courses with Bungkusit, Zepto Express, Warong Rider and Selangor Digital E-Supply Chain (Seldec).

“We believe this initiative will spark interest among the youths to join the e-hailing service which is getting a huge demand especially now during the Covid-19 pandemic,” he said.

The 2021 Selangor Budget had allocated RM2 million to continue and expand the RiDE programme to youths living in rural areas.
