41 corporations win Sustainability and CSR Malaysia Awards this year

KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 12 — Forty-one Malaysian corporations have been announced as winners of the 2020 Sustainability and CSR Malaysia Awards, a joint effort by the CSR Malaysia publication and Corporate Sustainability and Responsibility Malaysia Welfare Society.

CSR Malaysia yesterday unveiled the awards list of outstanding Malaysian corporations that have excelled in the corporate sustainability and social responsibility arena.

Heading the 2020 awards list are Tenaga Nasional Bhd, McDonald’s restaurant operator Gerbang Alaf Restaurants Sdn Bhd, Kumpulan Perangsang Selangor and Bank Rakyat for their overall excellence, it said in a statement.

CSR Malaysia chairman, Datuk R Rajendran, said private sector companies are the driving force of the nation's economy and they are well placed to carry out meaningful and significant corporate social responsibility (CSR) activities.

"The 41 Malaysian corporations honoured as the award recipients have been selected by a panel of high-calibre judges, representing corporate and social bodies, and the judging criteria are based on a clear purpose and goals of the company in the CSR (corporate social responsibility) initiative, together with the impact created and frequency of CSR events held,” he said.

Great Eastern Life Assurance was honoured for uplifting underprivileged Malaysian children. Other award recipients include Kenanga Investment Bank, Getha (1969) Sdn Bhd, 7-Eleven Malaysia, Kwantas Corporation Bhd, Canon Marketing Malaysia, Heineken Malaysia Bhd, Federal Express Services, Homevest Capital and Al-Ikhsan Sports.

"CSR Malaysia also listed five foundations and social enterprises that have excelled in charity work that was carried out in 2019, and these are LeapEd Services Sdn Bhd, Great Heart Charity, Yayasan Pahang, Ronald McDonald House Charities Malaysia and Yayasan Bank Rakyat," he said.

CSR Malaysia managing editor and co-chairman, Lee Seng Chee, said corporations and organisations will need to promote sustainable economies by helping marginalised communities and making environmental efforts to preserve the country’s heritage for future generations.

He added that Corporate Malaysia’s aspirations should always go beyond mere profits or building world-class-buildings or infrastructures.
