PETALING JAYA, Nov 11 (Bernama) -- Three Bangladeshi men and six Vietnamese women were each fined RM500 or 14 days’ imprisonment by the Magistrate's Court here today after they pleaded guilty to flouting the standard operating procedure (SOP) of the conditional movement control order (CMCO) while in a pub.
Magistrate Zhafran Rahim Hamzah meted out the sentence to pub assistants Jamaluddin Mohamad Jamil, 20, and Abdul Amin Abdullah, 27; as well as the six customers - Tran Thi Phuong, 32; Nguyen Nu Nguyet Anh, 24; Pham Thi Truc Giang, 24; Nguyen Thi Ngoc Huyen, 30; Luu Le Kieu, 28; and Mai Thi Thu Hien, 29.
All of them did not practise physical distancing and did not wear face masks, which is an offence under Regulation 10 of the Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases (Measures within the Infected Local Areas) Regulations 2020.
Meanwhile, another pub assistant, Bangladeshi Hala Ali, 25, was fined RM500 or 14 days’ imprisonment after pleading guilty to organising prohibited activity during the CMCO period, which is an offence under Regulation 3 of the same rule
They were charged with committing the offence at the Verve Bar, Bandar Puteri, Puchong, near here at 9.30pm on October 30.
They were charged under Regulation 11(1) of the Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases (Measures within the Infected Local Areas) Regulations 2020, which carries a maximum fine of RM1,000 or imprisonment of up to six months, or both.
Lawyer Chui Jing Hong, who represented the eight individuals, except Hala, applied for a minimum fine on the grounds that they had been remanded for 12 days and, by pleading guilty, had saved the court time.
Deputy public prosecutor Siti Zubaidah Mahat urged the court to impose an appropriate sentence.
They accused paid their fines.
