SHAH ALAM, Nov 10 — The development of the Sungai Rasau Water Treatment Plant (WTP) is scheduled to complete by 2028 and would be able to supply more than 1,000 million litres per day (MLD) of water.
State executive councillor for infrastructure and public amenities Izham Hashim said the first phase of the WTP is expected to complete in 2024 while the second phase will be completed in the following four years.
“The first phase would be able to supply 700 MLD of water to the users in Klang while the second phase would provide about 700 MLD to other areas.
“The project must succeed in order to ensure the continuity of water supply in the Klang Valley. Therefore the development must begin the soonest and complete according to schedule,” he said.
Izham said this in his reply to a question from Subang Jaya assemblyman Michelle Ng who sought clarification on the status of the Sungai Rasau WTP development during the Selangor Legislative Assembly sitting here today.
He added that the Selangor government had also requested for a RM500 million allocation under the 12th Malaysia Plan for water resources projects.
On September 6, Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari had said the development of additional WTP would help ease the dependence on the three Sungai Selangor WTPs.
