BANGKOK, Nov 6 — Thai Airways International Pcl is seeking potential buyers for 34 used Airbus SE and Boeing Co jets as part of its restructuring plan.
As published on its website, the aircraft on sale include Airbus A340s, Airbus A300, Boeing 737s, Boeing 747s, Boeing 777s that range between 10 and 28 years old.
All aircraft are offered for sale on an “as-is, where-is” basis, it stated.
In a statement today, Thai Airways said the announcement was part of a market survey to identify potential buyers who may be interested in buying the used aircraft.
“The announcement is one of the steps in the preparation stage to subsequently sell the used aircraft under the business reorganisation proceedings.
“The sale of the planes would require relevant stakeholders and the Bankruptcy Court’s approval,” the airline said.
Thai Airways said the sale of the planes would be consistent with its reorganisation plan to decrease the fleet size to be suited with routes and efficiency required under its cost management plan.
In September, Thailand’s Bankruptcy Court allowed Thai Airways to proceed with its debt restructuring plan of 245 billion baht (RM33 billion).
The airline recorded losses every year since 2012, except in 2016, and incurred a net loss of 12.04 billion baht (RM1.6 billion) in 2019.
Thai Airways’ financial woes were due to rapid competition in the aviation industry, and the Covid-19 pandemic and travel restrictions that stopped flights.
