Covid-19 in Labuan ‘still manageable’ despite surge in cases — Health Director

LABUAN, Nov 5 — The Covid-19 pandemic on this duty-free-island is “still manageable”  despite a recent surge in the number of cases and clusters, Labuan Health director Dr Ismuni Bohari said today.

He said the recent multiple-fold increase in the number of daily Covid-19 cases is no indication that the pandemic has gone beyond control.

The cumulative number of Covid-19 cases on the island as of November 4 was 701, having risen from 29 on October 3.

Dr Ismuni told Bernama the daily average number of cases in Labuan is between 20 and 30, about one per cent of the 2,000 to 3, 000 samples analysed.

He also said that the recovery rate in Labuan is about 60 per cent, with 423 recovered patients compared to the 701 cumulative cases and the active cases standing at 276 as of November 4.

Labuan, Malaysia’s international business and financial centre and oil and gas hub, detected five active Covid-19 clusters, namely Saguking (with 298 cases); Tenaga (58); Limbungan (49); Titian (29) and Bina (27)  as of November 4.

The island was placed under a conditional movement control order (CMCO) from October 17 to 30. The CMCO has been extended to November 13.
