SHAH ALAM, Nov 2 — Selangor’s economic growth rate this year is projected at 2 per cent following the impact from the Covid-19 outbreak, says Dato' Seri Amirudin Shari.
The Menteri Besar said the enforcement of the movement control order (MCO) and the conditional MCO (CMCO) has affected several sectors, which stunted forecasts of the gross domestic product (GDP).
He said the most-hit sectors are the manufacturing and services sectors, which are the largest contributor to the state’s economy.
“The economic growth forecast for Selangor was made in three scenarios. The first one is based on the national GDP forecast of 0.5 per cent, where the state economic growth is at 2.09 per cent
“Secondly, Malaysia’s GDP at -0.5 per cent, and the state economic growth at 1.07 per cent, and the worst-case scenario is the country’s GDP forecasted at -3 per cent, and the state’s at -1.47 per cent,” he said.
Amirudin was responding to a question from Bukit Lanjan assemblyman Elizabeth Wong on the state's economic growth forecast at the Selangor Legislative Assembly sitting here today.
In response to Pandamaran assemblyman Leong Tuck Chee on the state’s revenue this year, Amirudin said the state has achieved 90 per cent of its RM2.2 billion target as of October 26.
“We have targetted a total revenue of RM2.2 billion this year and we have reached about RM1.99 billion. The state government recorded a RM1.8 billion revenue in 2017, RM1.99 billion in 2018, and RM2.32 billion last year,” he said.
