SHAH ALAM, Oct 30 — Realising how badly the tourism industry was hit by the Covid-19 pandemic, Selangor is allocating in its budget next year RM5.85 million to develop and stimulate the tourism sector.

Selangor Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari when the tabling of 2021 Selangor Budget, here today, said the allocation was a show of the state government’s concern for the livelihood of the tourism operators.

“Tourism Selangor will continue in boosting promotional campaigns and implement high impact events in an effort to bring back the momentum in the state’s tourism sector,” said Amirudin in his speech at the Selangor Legislative Assembly here today.

He said the state had implemented the economic stimulus package that included initiatives to help tour guides, local community hosts, and licensed homestay operators in Selangor.

In efforts to promote domestic tourism, Amirudin said the “Pusing Selangor Dulu” campaign was introduced to attract visitors to visit the state.

“Selangor also realises the potential of creative tourism in areas such as the paddy fields in Sekinchan, colonial buildings in Kuala Kubu Bharu that can be used by film producers thus creating income for the state,” said Amirudin.

Selangor had today revealed its state budget with a total allocation of RM2.323 billion.

The budget includes five main strategies, namely Selangor Digitalisation Agenda; Peaceful Selangor, Prosperous Ummah; Driving Value Creation and Developing Human Resource; Strengthen Sustainable Environment, Resources, and Food Security and Supply Chain; Revitalising Economic Recovery and Development of Industries.
