Civil servant bonus should be awarded according to merits, service sectors — MAAC

SEREMBAN, Sept 28 — The Malaysian Academic Association Congress (MAAC) today proposed that civil servant bonus should be awarded according to merit and the service sector.

MAAC president Professor Datuk Dr Mohd Idrus Mohd Masirin said the matter may be carried out based on Annual Performance Appraisal Report (LNPT) marks received by the employee as well as the employee’s performance in Key Performance Index (KPI) set by the department and government.

“Civil servants have been facing major challenges in the past three years due to the economic recession, change of government and Covid-19 pandemic. Awarding bonus according to merits and service sector would help low-income civil servants and ensure it is distributed fairly.

“This is a sacrifice not only for the government and nation but especially for the security and prosperity of the economy and the community. Nonetheless what the government needed to do is to create an environment where the people have the purchasing power and sustain their livelihood,” he said in a statement to Bernama here today.

Mohd Idrus said civil servants have proved their excellent service when the country was facing various challenges and awarding bonus according to merits is seen as a catalyse and inspiration to all civil servants to continue ensure the well-being of the people and country.

Yesterday, the Congress of Unions of Employees in the Public and Civil Services (Cuepacs) president, Adnan Mat was reported as saying that Cuepacs would be seeking the Federal government to give monthly bonus to civil servants and not as a special financial aid as it is now.

Adnan said the issue would be raised at a meeting with the Finance Ministry in the meeting on October 7.
