SHAH ALAM, Sept 28 — Selangor will make use of the Sungai Gong flood reservoir as a site to treat polluted water source, says Izham Hashim.

The Selangor Public Amenities, Agricultural Modernisation and Agro-based Industry Committee chairman said contaminated water will be collected and treated in the said location before it is channelled into the Sungai Sembah.

“This proposal will be approved soon as we do not want such pollution incident to arise that would cause major problems.

“The reservoir is 15 acres in size and we have suggested adding 10 more acres for this purpose,” he told SelangorKini, yesterday.

Izham added the methods to treat contaminated water is being studied to ensure clean water supply is being channelled to the consumers.

On September 19, the Selangor Water Management Authority (Luas) had received a report from the Gombak’s Department of Irrigation and Drainage (JPS) that black coloured water was found in Sungai Gong.

However, the water discolouration at the river had not caused the closure of the water treatment plants or water disruption.
