SHAH ALAM, Sept 23 — The discoloured water sample that was recently taken from Sungai Gong, Rawang, has been sent to the Department of Chemistry for further analysis.

State Environment, Green Technology, Science, Technology and Innovation and Consumer Affairs Committee chairman Hee Loy Sian said the result will be known in about a week's time.

He said the department is still analysing the sample to determine if the waste was released from the nearby industrial area.

“An in-depth test is being carried out and normally, it will take seven to 14 days but we hope to obtain the result as soon as possible,” he told SelangorKini yesterday.

Hee said that the recent Sungai Gong pollution incident was handled immediately as 24-hour patrolling of Sungai Selangor’s basins were carried out by officers from the Selangor Water Management Authority (Luas) and Pengurusan Air Selangor Sdn Bhd (Air Selangor).

On Saturday, Luas received a report from the Gombak’s Department of Irrigation and Drainage (JPS) that black coloured water was found in Sungai Gong.

However, the water discolouration at the river had not caused the closure of the water treatment plants or water disruption.
